Flodden

Flodden was the single greatest feat of English arms over our northern neighbours, and helped to erase the shame of Bannockburn two centuries earlier.  The Scots wrote a lament, which was set to music in the 19th century. "The Flowers of the Forest" is still played today at Scottish military funeral services.
Despite the great success by his Northern Army, Henry VIII displayed little gratitude. Distracted as he was by the war against France, and perhaps feeling his own limited success paled by comparison, the king granted few rewards to his northern army or their leaders.
