Henry, 7th Baron Scrope
Henry, 7th Baron Scrope was a Knight of the Bath to England’s King Henry VIII. In 1513, when the Scottish army under James IV again threatened to invade the North of England, Lord Scrope raised a contingent of troops in the locale of Wensleydale and led then into battle against the Scots.
Lord Scrope's men fought in the Earl of Surrey's main battalia at the battle of Flodden (9 September 1513, Old Calendar)and bore much of the brunt from the Scottish pikemen. Along with the rest of the Yorkshire levies, they stemmed the Scottish advance down Flodden Hill and halted them, allowing Lord Howard's battalia to sweep in on the flank and crush the Scots. James IV of Scotland was slain, along with hundreds of nobles, and thousands of common folk.
