Historical Information

The Retinue seeks to re-create the duties and activities of the retainers of an English Lord of North Yorkshire during the first quarter of the 16th century (1513-1523. Members participate by taking the parts of archers, billmen or men-at-arms, or any of the support elements that accompanies a late medieval/Early Modern English Army. For purposes of accuracy in our portrayal, we strive to maintain the historical ratio of two archers to each billman, with 2-3 billmen then supporting one man-at arms. Archers are encouraged to develop their proficiency and accuracy with the English Longbow and to participate in the various archery competitions and tournaments that will on occasion present themselves.
