Our Story
(Fall & Winter)
With the final rout of the last rebellious peasant bands, our contract has been fulfilled, and many troops have gone home until the next campaign. Those who have chosen to remain are encamped outside the city, about a mile away. We are preparing to move our camp to winter quarters, on the grounds of the university inside the city walls. The scholars and clergymen there have need of bodyguards, and our campfollowers have taken up work as cooks and washer women for the students. True, the pay is not much compared to what we can earn on campaign, but the work relatively easy, and we will be warm and well-fed for the winter. We will also have time to make necessary repairs to our equipment and perhaps even to contract another artillery piece before next Spring, when we will seek a new contract with the inevitability of new hostilities somewhere within the Empire.
